SUMMARY:Integrated Ocean Carbon Research Working Group meeting
DESCRIPTION:The IOC UNESCO working group Integrated Ocean Carbon Research (IOC-R) workshop is co-sponsored by IOC/ UNESCO\, the G7 Future of the Seas and Oceans Initiative\, Ocean Decade Programme Ocean Negative Carbon Emission (ONCE) and hosted by the European Commission and its EU4OceanObs action. Besides IOC UNESCO\, IOC-R is supported by the Integrated Marine Biosphere Research Project (IMBeR)\, the Surface Ocean – Lower Atmosphere Study (SOLAS)\, the Climate and Ocean Variability\, Predictability and Change project (CLIVAR)\, the Global Carbon Project and International Ocean Carbon Coordination Project (IOCCP). \n  \nEstablished in 2018\, the IOC Expert Working Group of the Integrated Ocean Carbon Research (IOC-R) aims at filling knowledge gaps in relation to ocean inorganic carbon by designing and promoting the implementation of a new generation of integrated ocean carbon research. The working group fosters active collaboration and synergies amongst IOC\, IOCCP\, SOLAS\, IMBeR\, GCP\, CLIVAR\, WCRP and relevant international efforts on carbon research. \n  \nWorkshop objectives\n\nReview the IOC-R vision document and identify areas requiring an update\,\nIdentify a subset of emerging issues/knowledge gaps and/or areas to focus on in light of existing activities and articulate these in an updated vision document and other communications\,\nStructure the revised vision document and identify key messages\,\nIdentify key actions in the field of ocean observation and research to fill the identified gaps in ocean carbon research\nIdentify section lead authors and contributors\,\nProduce a roadmap / timeline of activities.\n\n  \nUseful links\n\nIntegrated ocean carbon research: a summary of ocean carbon research\, and vision of coordinated ocean carbon research and observations for the next decade – unesdoc.unesco.org/ark:/48223/pf0000376708\nHorizon Europe OceanICU – New project for improved understanding of the ocean carbon cycle to inform climate action

SUMMARY:European Maritime Day 2023
DESCRIPTION:The European Maritime Day (EMD) is the annual 2-day event during which Europe’s maritime community meet to network\, discuss and outline joint action on maritime affairs and sustainable blue economy. \nThe EMD is the place where ‘Ocean Leaders Meet’. It provides an engaging and complete interactive experience to catch up on the current state of play on a broad range of issues concerning the blue economy and the marine environment and discuss ways of moving forward. It features a large number of excellent speakers\, thematic sessions\, stakeholder workshops and project pitch sessions organised by stakeholders and the European Commission. The EMD targets professionals from businesses\, governments\, public institutions\, NGOs and academia. \nThe 2023 edition of the European Maritime Day will take place in Brest\, France\, on 24-25 May as physical event. \nThe EMD 2023 is being organised by the European Commission\, the City of Brest\, the Secretariat General for the Sea and the Region of Bretagne. \nDon’t miss the following workshops dedicated to ocean observing and marine data for policy: \n\n24 May | 14:30 – 15:45 – Workshop 23 (onsite) – Sustainable ocean observation\, from open sea to coast: shared responsibilities (organisers: EuroGOOS\, Euro-Argo ERIC\, Eurofleets Plus\, Ifremer and Esprit de Velox\n24 May | 16:15 – 17:30 – Workshop 12 (onsite)- Benefiting from Maritime Data to Drive Marine Innovation (Technopôle Brest-Iroise\, Blue-Cloud 2026\, European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet)\, VesselAI and the European Ocean Observing System Framework (EOOS)\n\nSee the agenda for more information\, by clicking here. \nAt the exhibition\, there will be a stand dedicated to the European Digital Twin of the Ocean\, hosted by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research (DG RTD) and Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE)\, together with Mercator Ocean International and VLIZ.
