SUMMARY:G7 FSOI meeting for biogeochemical Argo
DESCRIPTION:The first meeting of the G7 Future of the Seas and Oceans (G7 FSOI) Resource Strategy Group for the global Biogeochemical Argo Array 2030 will take place online from 28 to 29 March 2022\, bringing together representatives from the G7 member states (Canada\, France\, Germany\, Italy\, Japan\, UK\, USA and the European Commission). Hosted by the European coordinator of the G7 FSOI Coordination Centre\, supported by EU4OceanObs\, the meeting serves to share information between the G7 members and the International Mission Team on implementation progress and funding commitments for the global Biogeochemical Argo Array. It will also review scientific\, technical and logistical challenges and identify priorities for coordinated G7 investment or joint activities. \nThe G7 FSOI Resource Strategy Group works to support the development of a sustained Global Biogeochemical Argo Array by encouraging and facilitating G7 commitment for the implementation of the full-1000 float Array by 2030. SUMMARY:Developing cooperation across GEO Activities to address marine hazards in Africa
DESCRIPTION:An official side event of GEO Week 2021 \nGiven that approximately 25% of Africa’s population live within 100 km of the coast\, marine hazards pose increasing threats at local and regional levels. These include eutrophication\, coastal flooding\, marine pollution\, and water-borne diseases – all of which can be exacerbated by climate change. \nThe side event will review the role Earth Observations play in monitoring\, preparing for\, and recovering from\, marine hazards and what GEO can do to support the coastal aspects of the Sendai Framework for disaster risk reduction in Africa to inform priorities and identify opportunities for future collaboration across GEO activities and regional GEOs working on this thematic. SUMMARY:One Integrated Marine Debris Observing System
DESCRIPTION:Official Satellite Activity of UN Ocean Decade “a Clean Ocean” Laboratory \nThis event is organised by a consortium of 14 international ocean experts and is hosted by GEO Blue Planet\, EU4OceanObs and Mercator Ocean International as an official satellite activity of the 3rd UN Ocean Decade Laboratory “a Clean Ocean”. \nWe will discuss the current state of the marine debris system\, our knowledge about it and ways forward for implementing the Integrated Marine Debris Observing System (IMDOS). SUMMARY:EU4OceanObs side events at All-Atlantic 2021
DESCRIPTION:EU4OceanObs will co-host 3 side events at the All-Atlantic 2021 conference that will take place from 2 to 4 June 2021. The All-Atlantic 2021 is a Ministerial High-Level & Stakeholders Conference that will take place under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union\, in close cooperation with the European Commission\, aiming to strengthen Research & Innovation cooperation across and along the Atlantic Ocean\, from “pole to pole”.  The event will be a step forward in the work developed by the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance\, bringing together Ministries\, high-level representatives and ocean leaders\, including researchers\, youth\, entrepreneurs\, academics\, and civil society. \nThe side events co-organised through the EU4OceanObs actions on the G7 Future of the Seas and Oceans Initiative and GEO Blue Planet will address global ocean data sharing and infrastructures\, and monitoring and managing of marine litter and Sargassum in the Atlantic basin.
