Hosted by the European coordinator of the G7 FSOI Coordination Centre\, supported by EU4OceanObs\, the meeting serves to share information between the G7 members and the International Mission Team on implementation progress and funding commitments for the global Biogeochemical Argo Array. It will also review scientific\, technical and logistical challenges and identify priorities for coordinated G7 investment or joint activities. \nThe G7 FSOI Resource Strategy Group works to support the development of a sustained Global Biogeochemical Argo Array by encouraging and facilitating G7 commitment for the implementation of the full-1000 float Array by 2030. This activity contributes to G7 FSOI Action Areas 1\, 3\, and 4. \nFor more information on the G7 FSOI Resource Strategy Group on BGC Argo\, click here. \nUseful links\n\nThe Global Biogeochemical-Argo Fleet: Knowledge to Action Workshop 2021 \nEU coordination of G7 FSOI Coordination Centre URL:https://www.eu4oceanobs.eu/event/g7-fsoi-resource-strategy-group-meeting-for-global-biogeochemical-argo-array/ LOCATION:Online Event CATEGORIES:All events,Our events ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://www.eu4oceanobs.eu/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/2022-02-countries-bgc.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=Europe/Paris:20211125T110000 DTEND;TZID=Europe/Paris:20211125T115000 DTSTAMP:20250716T044918 CREATED:20211102T111715Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220518T140357Z UID:3634-1637838000-1637841000@www.eu4oceanobs.eu SUMMARY:Developing cooperation across GEO Activities to address marine hazards in Africa DESCRIPTION:An official side event of GEO Week 2021 \nGiven that approximately 25% of Africa’s population live within 100 km of the coast\, marine hazards pose increasing threats at local and regional levels. These include eutrophication\, coastal flooding\, marine pollution\, and water-borne diseases – all of which can be exacerbated by climate change. \nThe side event will review the role Earth Observations play in monitoring\, preparing for\, and recovering from\, marine hazards and what GEO can do to support the coastal aspects of the Sendai Framework for disaster risk reduction in Africa to inform priorities and identify opportunities for future collaboration across GEO activities and regional GEOs working on this thematic. In the context of the UN Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development\, the event supports the Decade outcome a “safe ocean” and links to the Ocean Decade programmes such as CoastPredict and CEOS COAST. \nClick here to register for event on the GEO Week 2021 website. \nProgramme\nEvent moderator – Audrey Hasson GEO Blue Planet EU coordinator/ Mercator Ocean International \n11:00 – 11:15 CET Introduction \nA global overview of marine hazards in Africa – Carlos Loureiro\, University of KwaZulu-Natal\, South Africa \nLocal perspective\, what issues are faced: \n\nSeychelles- Justin Prosper\, Ministry of Environment\nSenegal  – Amadou Moctar Dieye\, Centre de Suivi Ecologique (CSE)\n\n11:15 – 11:35 CET Addressing coastal pollution (plastic litter\, oil spill\, agricultural run off…) \n\n\n\nAfriGEO – Phoebe Oduor (Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development)\nGEO Blue Planet – Kwame Adu Agyekum (University of Ghana)\nGEO Digital Earth Africa – Adam Lewis\nGEO Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction – David Borges (NASA\, USA)\nGEO Human Planet – Daniele Ehrlich (European Commission)\n\n\n\n11:35 – 11:50 CET Panel discussion \nOrganisers\n\nGEO Blue Planet\nAfriGEO\nGEO Human Planet\nGEO Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group\nGEO Digital Earth Africa\nMercator Ocean International – EU4OceanObs project\n\n  \nReplay of the event on Youtube\nFor privacy reasons YouTube needs your permission to be loaded.
