SUMMARY:7th Argo Science Workshop - October 2022
DESCRIPTION:This international workshop is hosted by Euro-Argo and will take place at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels\, as a hybrid event with in-person and virtual attendance options. \nThe workshop aims to bring together ocean science research that has employed Argo data and products to further improve our knowledge of the changing oceans and highlight the applications that the new OneArgo array is opening. DESCRIPTION:The 7th International Marine Debris Conference (7IMDC) will take place from 18 to 23 September 2022 in Busan\, Republic of Korea. \nPart of a conference series\, the 7IMDC will build on the momentum of past IMDCs by bringing together governments\, industry\, academia\, civil society\, and all relevant stakeholders\, to discuss the latest science\, strengthen collaborations\, find solutions and catalyze action to address the urgent\, global problem of marine litter and plastic pollution. \n15 sessions will be dedicated to the topic of monitoring marine litter and plastic pollution (track 1)\, including stories and lessons from around the world: How monitoring can help inform actions to tackle marine litter; the future of the science of monitoring; towards monitoring baseliens and trends of floating marine macro litter\, amongst others. SUMMARY:15th EUMETSAT User Forum in Africa
DESCRIPTION:The EUMETSAT User Forum in Africa serves to sustain the well established dialogue between EUMETSAT and the African user community\, in particular the National Meteorological Services and their regional centres. Taking place every two years\, the Forum mainly works to facilitate the use of EUMETSAT satellite data throughout the continent. The Forum also provides opportunities to identify actions and initiatives that could be taken by EUMETSAT to meet the requirements of its African partners. \nSession 4 of the Forum\, that will take place on Wednesday\, 14 September in the afternoon will focus on the Blue Economy. DESCRIPTION:Scaling up Ocean Action Based on Science and Innovation for the Implementation of Goal 14: Stocktaking\, Partnerships and Solutions\n\nThe Ocean Conference\, co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal\, comes at a critical time as the world is strengthening its efforts to mobilise\, create and drive solutions to realise the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Teams will be invited to create innovative and impact-driven ocean solutions using marine earth-observation data\, to contribute to the sustainable use of ocean and coastal resources in Africa. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe coastal and marine environments in Africa expand over 35\,000 kilometers of coastline in 38 countries on the continent and deliver numerous ecosystem services\, among which food provisioning\, climate regulation\, cultural benefits\, tourism\, shipping\, to name just a few. Ocean governance\, including sustainable fisheries and blue economy\, is an area in which closer cooperation could benefit both continents. \nIn support of the UN 2030 Agenda and\, in particular\, Sustainable Development Goal 14 (“life below water”)\, and Africa’s 2063 Agenda\, both continents would benefit from a joint approach emphasizing the importance of oceans and seas\, not only for the safety\, security\, well-being and healthy environment of our societies\, but also as a catalyst for socio-economic changes in the face of climate change and the pandemic. \nThis cross-continental dialogue amongst government officials and non-state actors could enhance mutual understanding about ocean-related priorities\, whereby the two continents would have an opportunity to advance a shared agenda\, working together towards a mutually beneficial partnership in favour of economic opportunities\, environmental preservation and resilience to climate change. SUMMARY:GEO Week 2021
DESCRIPTION:The GEO Week 2021 will be held from 23 to 26 November in a virtual format and will include the GEO-17 Plenary\, anchor and side events\, and a virtual exhibition. \nThe major milestone events linked to global policy agendas  in 2021\, including the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP26\, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP15\, the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration present a new set of challenges and opportunities for the international community. During GEO Week 2021\, the multidisciplinary activities of the GEO Work Programme will be presented that that address and assess these challenges and opportunities in different sectors\, highlighting the potential contribution of Earth observations to these efforts. DESCRIPTION:The AfriGEO symposium 2021 aims at providing a platform to begin enhance collaboration and integration by bringing together experts from the aforementioned spheres to discuss\, unlock and activate the growth of African Industries in Earth Observation. \nThis symposium shall focus on 5 thematic areas: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Climate Change\n Agriculture and Food Security\n Industry (SMME) focus\n EO for Health\n Disaster Risk Reductions\n Data and Infrastructure (Cross cutting)\n\nSession 4 ‘Industry Focus’ will be held on 18 November at 14h20 to 16h30 EAT and will include a plenary session and virtual exhibiting booths. SUMMARY:One Integrated Marine Debris Observing System
DESCRIPTION:Official Satellite Activity of UN Ocean Decade “a Clean Ocean” Laboratory \nThis event is organised by a consortium of 14 international ocean experts and is hosted by GEO Blue Planet\, EU4OceanObs and Mercator Ocean International as an official satellite activity of the 3rd UN Ocean Decade Laboratory “a Clean Ocean”. \nWe will discuss the current state of the marine debris system\, our knowledge about it and ways forward for implementing the Integrated Marine Debris Observing System (IMDOS). SUMMARY:EU project IMPRESSIVE Final Conference
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable port management through Copernicus: the space-based IMPRESSIVE platform\nWould you like to know how a space-based platform could prevent marine pollution incidents? \nThe conference has the overall objective to promote and present the IMPRESSIVE solution\, an innovative platform with cutting-edge technology\, which could contribute to the sustainability of the ports in Europe.
