SUMMARY:Marine Data of Ocean Governance and Policy
DESCRIPTION:This event aims to gather and engage marine policy community in order to provide the view on the Copernicus Marine Service offer and bring its knowledge and capacities to EU Member States. \n\nThe Copernicus Marine Service provides marine data free & open to use supporting its users in defining the state of the seas and making reports for European Water Directives. This type of information is valuable to determine baseline environmental conditions\, estimate future impacts of defined pressures\, prioritize sampling activities\, etc.\n\n\nIn order to improve the Copernicus Marine service and its uptake for EU Directives\, the participants will have an opportunity to learn more about the Copernicus Marine products and successful user case stories\, share their specific requirements and discuss roadmap for the Copernicus Marine offer improvements.\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information\, click here.

SUMMARY:UN Ocean Conference 2022
DESCRIPTION:Scaling up Ocean Action Based on Science and Innovation for the Implementation of Goal 14: Stocktaking\, Partnerships and Solutions\n\nThe Ocean Conference\, co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal\, comes at a critical time as the world is strengthening its efforts to mobilise\, create and drive solutions to realise the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. As one of the first milestones of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ newly launched Decade of Action for the Sustainable Development Goals\, the Conference will propel much needed science-based innovative solutions aimed at starting a new chapter of global ocean action. \nOn Thursday\, 30 June at 10 am is the event “Increasing scientific knowledge and developing research capacity and transfer of marine technology”. Click here for more information. \nTo fill many of the critical knowledge gaps mentioned above\, a value chain approach to ocean science is required starting with observations\, data collection and management and continuing through to modelling and prediction activities which include demand-driven applications and services for delivery of knowledge. \nTo go to the UN Ocean Conference 2022 website\, click here. \nSide events on enhancing the collection\, sharing and use of global ocean observation for societal benefit\nAll times are in local Lisbon time (GMT+1) \n\n27 June\, 18:45-20h30 – Digital Ocean systems to support and strengthen the implementation of sustainable development goals\, co-organised by Mercator Ocean International\, the European Commission\, UNEP\, and IOC-UNESCO.\n28 June\, 15:05-15:50 – Marine life observations: Integrating biology and ecology observations to enable indicators for conservation\, restoration\, and sustainable development of marine and coastal ecosystems\, coorganised by CIIMAR\, AIR Centre\, JAMSTEC\, GOOS\, NOAA\, among other partners.\n29 June\, 8:30-10:00 – Integrating Marine Litter Monitoring for Informed Action\, co-organised by the GEO Blue Planet EU Coordination/ EU4OceanObs\, together with the AIR Centre\, European funded project – EuroSea and other partners.\n29 June\, 18:00-21:00 – Interoperable\, transparent\, and accessible marine data for the UN 2030 Agenda\, the UN Decade of Ocean Science\, and for the benefit of all\, co-organised by EMODnet\, Fugro\, IOC-UNESCO\, Mercator Ocean International\n1 July\, 16:00 – 17:15 – Ocean and Coastal Observation and Monitoring at scale: Co-Designing the value chain from data to impact through a partnership approach\, co-organised by the G7 Future of the Seas and Oceans Initiative EU coordination (supported by EU4OceanObs)\, IOC-UNESCO\, GOOS\, Mercator Ocean International (UN Ocean Conference official accreditation required).\n\nFor the full list of side events\, click here.

SUMMARY:Integrating Marine Litter Monitoring to Inform Action
DESCRIPTION:A global instrument to tackle global pollution\nA side event proposal for the UN Ocean Conference 2022 \n29 June 2022\, Lisbon\, Portugal\n \nThe event builds on the UN Decade “Clean Ocean” Satellite activity One Integrated Marine Debris Observing System (IMDOS)\, that took place in November 2021. It will focus on the need for monitoring marine litter to inform action with the following objectives: \n\nAdvocate the necessity of a global sustained Integrated Marine Debris Observing System (IMDOS)\nPromote the building of a global IMDOS community\nEncourage the cooperation among scientists and between scientists and stakeholders such as policy makers and mitigation actors.\n\nClick here for more information.
