SUMMARY:1st International Conference of the UN Ocean Decade
DESCRIPTION:To mark the start of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development\, a series of re-structured virtual and hybrid events will be held starting from June 2021 to mid-2022: \n\n1 June 2021 – Opening event. To register\, click here.\nMid 2021 – mid 2022 – Ocean Decade Laboratories: interactive sessions to catalyse partnerships and co-design Ocean Decade Actions. The 7 participatory Laboratories will foster dialogue on overarching Ocean Decade themes: inclusivity\, solutions-based ocean science\, regional action\, and resource mobilisation\, among others.  Click here to submit contribution proposal.\n\nCheck the Ocean Decade Conference website regularly for updates. \nThe ocean is the largest ecosystem on Earth and central to the survival of nature and humankind. But the ocean is also under massive threat. More than ever before\, science and research are being called upon to join forces with policymakers\, society and economic actors to protect and sustainably manage the ocean. To achieve this vision\, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2021 to 2030 as the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (the “Ocean Decade). \nEU4OceanObs and the Ocean Decade\nThrough its G7 FSOI action\, EU4OceanObs will work closely with the Decade’s ocean observing projects and programmes to co-evolve joint activities\, targeting where G7 high-level support can add unique value. The EU4OceanObs GEO Blue Planet component will participate in leveraging the Group on Earth Observations’ (GEO) convening power and interdisciplinary work programme to mobilise action to enhance the use of ocean and coastal observations in support of the Decade.
