Activities developed under the 5 Action Areas are finite-lifetime projects designed to test and pilot new initiatives to advance the global ocean observing system. They are developed through wide consultation across the G7 and the EU Ocean observing communities and in close partnership with the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS).
On 2 March 2021, the G7 FSOI National Focal Points met to review proposals for joint activities, and approved the further development of the following 8 activities. The G7 FSOI Coordination Centre will develop scoping teams for each activity and engage with relevant partners in the G7, EU, and international ocean programmes to target where the G7 can add unique value to advance the global ocean observing system. These activities will co-evolve with the programmes of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
The EU4OceanObs action coordinator is part of a distributed G7 Coordination Centre that implements the initiative’s activities under the guidance of the G7 FSOI National Focal Points and the Working Group. For more information about the activities being developed, visit the G7 FSOI website (www.g7fsoi.org/activities).
