Collecting the ocean data that responds to global requirements through coordinated international ocean governance partnerships is carried out by national, regional, and international networks that are aligned through common implementation strategies and global data sharing agreements. Data are collected by both in situ networks and through satellite remote sensing. Ocean observations made through research and innovation projects are key elements of the observing system design and development strategy.
